Chiropractic care is a natural, holistic approach to health which seeks to optimize nerve function by correcting spinal subluxations (displacement of vertebrae). These subluxations create mechanical stresses on spinal nerves, impairing nerve function. Because spinal nerves both conduct sensation and affect internal organs and musculature, subluxation can be related to a wide array of complaints, including asthma, back pain, headache, and sciatica.
Where medical care focuses primarily on blood chemistry and treats illnesses with drugs, chiropractic care's emphasis is on optimizing health through maintenance of proper nerve function and nutrition. Rather than mutually exclusive, these approaches are complementary, and patients are referred for medical care where appropriate.
